The Department of Science hosted an "Alumni Interaction and Felicitation" event on 13th September 2024 in honor of Mr. Harish Arjun Redekar, an alumnus from the 2019-20 Batch, for his remarkable achievement of qualifying the SET exam and pursuing a Ph.D. in Physics. The event saw the participation of 35 students from B. Sc. I, II, and III. The event commenced with a welcome address by the Dr. V. V. Ganbavle (Head of Department, Physics), who highlighted the importance of alumni engagements and congratulated Mr. Harish Redekar for his academic accomplishments.
During the interaction session, Mr. Harish shared his journey and experiences, offering valuable insights into the preparation required for competitive exams like SET and the opportunities in pursuing higher education in Physics. He encouraged students to aim high and stay determined in their academic endeavors. The students actively participated, engaging in a lively Question & Answer session with Mr. Harish, where they inquired about exam preparation strategies, research opportunities, and career prospects in Physics. The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where Mr. Harish was honored with a token of appreciation by the Dr. V. V. Ganbavle sir for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the field of science. On the occasion of Teachers' Day, six B. Sc. III year students conducted mock teaching sessions for B. Sc. I and II-year students. This event was organized to foster peer learning, leadership skills, and pedagogical practice among senior students.

The mock teaching session was designed to give the B. Sc. III students an opportunity to share their knowledge with their juniors. The topics were well-prepared and covered key concepts relevant to the B. Sc. I and II curriculum. Junior students appreciated the teaching methods and found the sessions helpful for their understanding of the subjects. The mock teaching enhanced the presentation and communication skills of the B. The Department of Physics successfully organized an Online Game-Based Quiz Competition on 28th August 2024 to commemorate the First National Space Day. The program was conducted using the interactive platform Kahoot! and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across the B.Sc. program. The event commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by Principal Dr. Maner, who officially inaugurated the program. In his address, he lauded the efforts of the Physics Department in organizing such an innovative and engaging initiative to celebrate National Space Day. He also extended his best wishes to the participating students, emphasizing the importance of space science and its growing relevance in today’s world.
The quiz focused on topics related to space exploration, astronomy, and advancements in space science, encouraging students to test their knowledge and curiosity in the domain. A total of 63 students participated in the competition, showcasing their enthusiasm and competitive spirit. Additionally, 64 students attended the program, making it a well-received event within the department. The program concluded with a prize distribution ceremony to honor the top performers. The prizes were distributed by distinguished faculty members, including Dr. V. V. Ganbavle, Prof. D. A. Yadav, and Prof. D. J. Mungare. They commended the winners for their outstanding performance and encouraged all participants to continue exploring the vast and fascinating field of space science. The quiz competition served as an excellent platform for students to engage in a fun and educational activity while celebrating the spirit of National Space Day. It fostered a sense of curiosity and excitement among students, motivating them to delve deeper into the mysteries of the universe. The Department of Physics organized seminars for B. Sc. III students during Semester V of the academic year 2024-2025. A total of 11 students delivered presentations on topics of their choice, each lasting 30 minutes. All students selected unique topics and confidently presented lectures on subjects from the academic syllabus, such as Classical Mechanics, Mathematical Physics, Digital Electronics, Quantum Mechanics, and Atoms, Molecules, and Astrophysics. This seminar activity aims to enhance students' confidence, improve their teaching skills, and provide valuable teaching experience. The presentations were evaluated by the respective in-charge teacher, who provided constructive feedback and suggestions.
The seminar activity proved to be a valuable learning experience for B.Sc. III Physics students, contributing to both their personal and academic growth. The initiative succeeded in fostering a supportive environment for public speaking, critical thinking, and peer learning. The department plans to continue organizing similar activities to further enhance students' skills and confidence in future semesters.

A glimpse into India's space odyssey through ISRO's inspiring 'Space on Wheels' exhibition!

On January 11, 2025, the B. Sc. III students had the unique opportunity to visit the 'Space on Wheels' exhibition at Vyankatrao Highschool and Jr. College, Ichalkaranji an initiative by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in collaboration with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA). This mobile exhibition is designed to promote space science awareness and ignite curiosity among students by bringing India's space achievements directly to educational institutions and the public. 'Space on Wheels' is a mobile exhibition housed within a specially designed bus, featuring interactive displays and models of ISRO's significant missions, including Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan. The exhibition aims to provide insights into India's space endeavors and inspire students to consider careers in space science.
During the visit, students explored various exhibits showcasing models of launch vehicles, satellites, and communication systems. They participated in interactive sessions that provided practical learning experiences about space technology and ISRO's missions. Additionally, the exhibition included competitions such as quizzes and model-making to test students' knowledge and creativity. The visit offered students a comprehensive understanding of India's advancements in space technology. They gained insights into the challenges and successes of missions like Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan, fostering a sense of national pride and motivation to contribute to the field of space science. Students expressed enthusiasm about the hands-on experience and the opportunity to interact with detailed models of spacecraft and satellites. Study Tour
On 16th January 2025, the “Physics Department” of D. K. A. S. C. College, Ichalkaranji, organized a one-day educational stud-tour to the scenic destinations of “Marleshwar, Ganpatipule, Ratnagiri, and Bhate Beach”. The study tour commenced at 5:00 AM on 16th January 2025 and concluded with the group returning at 1:00 AM on 17th January 2025. The tour was attended by 17 enthusiastic B.Sc. I and III students, accompanied by three faculty members: Dr. V. S. Pawar, Mr. S. D. Pathan, and Ms. V. S. Dhobale. The journey began early in the morning, fostering excitement among students as they explored the serene beauty of Marleshwar, renowned for its caves and temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
At Ganpatipule, the group marvelled at the historic Ganapati Temple and enjoyed the picturesque beachfront. Ratnagiri provided an enriching experience with its cultural and historical significance, adding a deeper dimension to the tour. The final destination, Bhate Beach, allowed students to relax and reflect amidst the tranquil waves and stunning coastal views. The study tour offered an excellent opportunity to blend academics with recreation, fostering a sense of camaraderie and learning outside the classroom.
Highlights of the study tour
- Marleshwar Temple: The journey began early in the morning with a visit to the ancient Marleshwar Temple, nestled in the Sahyadri Hills. The serene environment and the temple's rock-cut architecture provided a spiritual and cultural experience. The nearby Dhodhsagar Waterfall added to the scenic beauty.
- Ganpatipule Temple and Beach:The next stop was Ganpatipule, famous for its Swayambhu (self-manifested) Ganpati Temple. Students learned about the temple's historical significance and the local traditions associated with it. The pristine Ganpatipule Beach offered an opportunity to relax and enjoy the coastal scenery.
- Ratnagiri: In Ratnagiri, the group explored landmarks like “Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krushi Vidyapith, Ratnagiri” and “Ranta-durg” gaining insights into the region's historical and freedom struggle legacy.
- Bhate Beach: The final destination was Bhate Beach, known for its tranquil ambiance and clean sands. Students engaged in recreational activities and admired the sunset, which marked a perfect end to the trip.
"B. Sc. III Seminars, Semester-VI"
The Department of Physics organized seminars for B. Sc. III students during Semester-VI of the academic year 2024-2025. A total of 11 students delivered presentations on topics given by the department, each lasting 30 minutes. Some students delivered seminars using Black Board and some students by the PowerPoint Presentations (PPT). All students confidently presented lectures on subjects from the academic syllabus, such as and “Nuclear and Particle Physics”, “Solid State Physics”, “Atoms, Molecules & Astrophysics”, and “Energy Studies and Materials Science”. This seminar activity aims to enhance students’ confidence, improve their teaching skills, and provide valuable teaching experience. The presentations were evaluated by the respective in-charge teacher, who provided constructive feedback and suggestions.
