Dattajirao Kadam Arts, Science and Commerce College, Ichalkaranji was established in 1962 by Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha Kolhapur, founded by Shikshanmaharshi Dr. Bapuji Salunkhe with a motto “Dissemination of Education for Knowledge Science & Culture”. The college is located in industrial city of Ichalkaranji well known as Manchester of Maharashtra. The college is renowned as one of the most established and best within the university, excelling not only in academics but also in sports, cultural and extension activities. The college is unique as it is the only multidisciplinary institution in Ichalkaranji. Our college is proud to have students from many different religious and cultural backgrounds. This diversity enhances the learning environment and promotes a culture of mutual respect and inclusivity.

     Our mission is to create an inclusive environment where students can explore their potential, grow in all aspects and become lifelong learners. As the longest-established college in the city, we have a long history of providing education to underprivileged students, especially those from worker families who settled in Ichalkaranji due to the rapid growth of the textile industry.         Ichalkaranji, known as the "Manchester of Maharashtra," has a long history in the textile industry. It is also the main place in the boundary of South Maharashtra and Karnataka State. The city is famous for its power looms, spinning mills and textile manufacturing units, making it an important centre for textile production in India. Urbanization in Ichalkaranji has grown significantly since the early 20^th century. Despite its industrial growth, workers in Ichalkaranji’s textile sector often face difficult conditions and have limited resources. These challenges impact their lives and make it hard for their children to get an education. In response, our college is dedicated to providing these children with quality education, giving them the chance to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future.

        Aligned with the core values of the UGC and NAAC our institution focuses on national development through education. We provide support to students from textile industry worker families, promoting community upliftment and inclusive growth. Our initiatives include advancing fairness, expanding opportunities and cultural understanding.

       To address the socio-economic challenges faced by textile workers' families, we offer various support mechanisms. Various Government Scholarships provide financial assistance to students based on merit or need, helping to reduce the burden of tuition fees and other educational expenses. Student Assistance Fund offers financial support to students facing unforeseen challenges, ensuring they can continue their education without interruption. The Earn and Learn allows students to work part-time while studying. The aim is to help students cover their educational expenses and gain work experience. Under this scheme, students can take on various roles or tasks within the college, earning money. This not only supports students financially but also helps them develop practical skills and work ethics. Together, these initiatives aim to provide comprehensive support, enabling students to focus on their studies and reach their full potential despite financial challenges.

          The college offers career-oriented courses designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge for professional success. The college focuses on helping students develop their personalities and entrepreneurial skills. We offer training programs that help with personal growth and business skills, preparing students for success in various careers. Additionally, college provide job opportunities through skill-based courses like Purse Making, Basic Mehandi, Beauty Parlour, which help students become self-reliant and capable.

        Our institution’s distinctiveness extends to its commitment to local development through MoU with different organizations/industries. We offer training and internship opportunities with local industries, support research and innovation in textile-related fields and provide industry-oriented skill development programs. We also engage alumni in meaningful ways, recognizing their achievements and contributions to the college's development and highlighting notable alumni in the textile industry.

          Students are encouraged to join the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) to build responsibility, discipline and a sense of community. The college organizes events such as workshops and training to help students explore and develop their art and skills. We celebrate various days, traditional day and festivals from different religions, enriching our cultural activities. Students regularly excel in sports competitions, enhancing their individual growth and contributing to the institution's reputation for nurturing well-rounded individuals.

       Our college has produced several merit holders at Shivaji University, Kolhapur. This success highlights our high education standards and effective teaching methods, preparing students for further studies and success. We also offer counselling and mentoring services, along with career guidance and placement assistance, to support students in their personal and career growth. Beyond focusing on academics and career success, we also promote entrepreneurship among our students. We organize trade fairs which enhance learning experience of the students. Many of our graduates have started their own start-ups. This not only helps their career growth but also boosts economic development. In the past, college  initiated course entitled ‘Diploma in Textile Design related to the textile industry’, which helps student to uplift the skills needed to excel in the textile industry.
